QUICK LINKS
With your information prepared and documents ready, follow the steps to complete your application through QTAC and directly with JCU.
5 — Apply through the QTAC Portal
Login to your QTAC account or create a new account if you don’t have one.
You can apply for up to six courses through the QTAC portal, including all JCU courses in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science. Use your QTAC codes or course names to search for your preferred degrees and arrange your choices from 1 to 6 in order of preference. If you're applying for Medicine in Cairns and Townsville, please also make sure you apply for both and arrange them in order.
After you submit your QTAC application, you can change your preferences up to three times free of charge. QTAC will charge a fee for each additional change.
Information you’ll be asked to provide includes:
Year 12 studies
- Year you completed or expect to complete Year 12
- Name and country of the school you graduated or expect to graduate from.
Bridging subjects
- Year you completed or expect to complete your bridging subject/s
- Name of your bridging subject/s or qualification/s
- Name and country of your education provider.
Tertiary studies commenced or completed after Year 12
- Your dates of study
- Name of the degree you commenced or completed
- Name and country of your university.
When you’ve finished, make a note of your QTAC application number as you’ll need it for the next step. Look for it on the ‘application’ screen in the QTAC portal. It typically starts with the letter ‘A’ followed by nine digits.
6 — Apply through the JCU Portal
- Check your application carefully before submitting.
- Once you have submitted your application, you cannot make further changes.
- Please make sure the email address in your application is correct.

- Any letters of support sent separately to your application will not be accepted.
Update regarding applications due 30 September 2024 for the JCU intake for Medicine in 2025:
- Medicine applicants do not submit written statements OR letters of support at any point during the application, interview or selection process.
- This is a change from previous years when applicants were asked to provide both of these.
7 — If invited, attend your online interview
After initial assessment of your predicted or actual academic results and supporting information, some applicants for Medicine may be invited by email to attend an online panel interview.
JCU typically holds two rounds of interviews for each year, which are listed in the table of important dates. Interviews are intended to help assess your suitability for a career in medicine. Panels typically include a health practitioner, an academic staff member and a member of the community.
If you receive an invitation for an interview, your email will include a link to an online booking system to select your preferred date and time. Once confirmed, requesting changes may not be possible as the schedule usually fills up quickly.
- The selection processes for Dentistry and Veterinary Science courses do not involve interviews.
