Primary Advisor Statement

This statement should be completed to support a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Scholarship Application. The Primary Advisor Statement should address the HDR Scholarship Applicant Assessment Framework and will be used to assess scholarship applications.

Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Scholarships are allocated to HDR candidates, based upon the following principles:

  • Scholarships are awarded primarily to enable research training for HDR candidates.
  • Scholarships must be awarded on merit as well as consideration of the full range of pathways and experiences candidates from diverse backgrounds can bring to their HDR candidature at JCU.
  • Scholarships will be allocated in alignment with the JCU Research Strategy.
  • Consideration should be given to advancing underrepresented groups.

Advisors should make themselves familiar with the HDR Scholarship Scoring Procedure before completing this form, and in particular criteria outlined in the HDR Scholarship Applicant Assessment Framework needs to be addressed clearly and directly. Link your answers with your College or JCU’s strategic research plans, demonstrate how the proposed project will fit within these strategies. Ensure you have an Advisory team with a diversity of experience and capability. Including an ECR on the Advisory team is required. Wherever possible the inclusion of an internship is expected.
