Weiyu Chen

Weiyu, a dedicated member of the ITRH and a current Master's student under the guidance of A/Prof Leo Nankervis, holds bachelor's degrees in physics from the University of Colorado Boulder and aquaculture from James Cook University, Singapore. Later, an honours degree was earned from James Cook University, with research focusing on employing Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to non-invasively predict the colouration of barramundi flesh and developing a novel method for precise melanin quantification. Currently, Weiyu's research at ITRH pioneers cryopreservation techniques for pearl oysters and giant grouper sperm, with ambitions to extend these methods to their eggs in the future.
