When will I graduate/confer?

Conferral is the process undertaken to officially award your degree. Your graduation documents are issued to you after your conferral, regardless of whether you choose to attend your graduation ceremony or not.

The following outlines the conferral process and next steps following conferral:

1. You will receive an email confirming the date of your conferral

Once you are eligible to be conferred, you will receive an email confirming your conferral date.

2. Your award will be conferred

When you have been awarded your degree, you will receive your digital and hard copy graduation documents to confirm the completion of your degree.

  • A digital copy of your Testamur and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) will be available within a week of conferral. These documents can be accessed and shared via My eQuals.
  • A hard copy of your Testamur will be mailed to your postal address following conferral. Allow up to six weeks within Australia and eight weeks if posting overseas.

3. Update your post-nominals/award abbreviation

You are legally a graduate upon conferral and can use your post-nominals. Go to our handbook website > Past Handbooks > Select the applicable year handbook > Course Information > Select your course. Scroll down to Award DetailsApproved abbreviation for the post nominals for your course.

4. Explore the benefits of being a JCU Alumni

Following conferral, you will receive an email welcoming you to the alumni network. In the welcome email, you will be encouraged to update your details so that we can contact you about events and activities happening in your city.
