Graduation Preparing for your graduation ceremony

Preparing for your graduation ceremony

Congratulations on reaching the final stretch of your university journey. In anticipation that you pass all required subjects, and are eligible to graduate, you will be allocated to a graduation ceremony. You will receive an allocation email when you are enrolled in your final subjects of your course, and the Enrolment Team have reviewed your record.

If you plan to attend your graduation ceremony, there are important steps outlined in Your Graduation Checklist to complete in the lead up to and on the day itself.

The day of the ceremony will be busy, so it is important that you arrive on time. To avoid any stress on the day, review Your Graduation Ceremony Schedule.

Your Graduation Checklist

1 — Register for your guest tickets

You will receive an email approximately four weeks before your graduation ceremony with details on how to register for your four (4) complimentary guest tickets.

Please note, graduates are not required to reserve a seat for themselves.

2 — Inform your guests

Inform your guests of all the necessary details for the ceremony provided with your guest EventBrite tickets. Guests will need to show their guest ticket to the ushers on the day of the ceremony.

3 — Hire or Purchase a JCU Approved Gown

It is compulsory to wear JCU approved academic dress at ceremonies. Gown hire services are provided by Silver Rose. A gown hire link will be emailed approximately four weeks before the ceremony.

4 — Notify us if you have any special requirements

Email graduations@jcu.edu.au if you have any special requirements for the day of the ceremony (e.g., I will require wheelchair access).

5 — Share your Graduation Ceremony Live Link

The graduation ceremony will be live streamed via JCU’s YouTube channel. See Graduation Ceremony Dates & Times for the link.

6 — Plan your outfit

Your graduation ceremony is a formal occasion. It is recommended that graduates wear clothing that is neat and smart. You’ll need shoes that are suitable for stairs and carpet. Thongs, shorts, t-shirts, jeans and ripped clothing are not considered appropriate.

1 — Check your email for your registration number

The Graduations Team will email your registration number approximately two days before the ceremony. Please email graduations@jcu.edu.au if you do not receive your registration number.

2 — Plan your transport and parking for the ceremony

Parking can be limited, so please factor in extra time for parking or arrange to arrive by taxi or other rideshare options.

1 — Arrive two hours prior to ceremony commencement

This allows time for parking, gown collection and photography prior to registration.

2 — Collect your JCU Approved Gown

Upon arrival, please collect your gown if you haven’t done so prior to the ceremony. If you have a JCU approved gown, staff will be available to assist with dressing you.

3 — Capture your big moment

Silver Rose Photography will be providing the photographic services at the graduation including portrait and family photography sessions.

Please note: JCU will be photographing/videoing Graduations for JCU social media and advertising purposes. If you have any questions in relation to your photograph being taken, or if you do not wish to be photographed/videoed during the day, please notify the photographer at the event.

A florist will be also in attendance at the ceremony for all your graduation merchandise.

4 — Leave personal belongings with guests

There are no facilities available to leave any personal items (handbags/mobiles etc.). All your personal belongings must be left with guests, or you may consider clothing with a pocket under your gown.

5 — Register your attendance at the ceremony

Ensure you are in full academic dress before arriving for registration. At the registration desk, provide your registration number to obtain your graduation card. Please keep your graduation card with you at all times until you hand it to the ceremony marshal on stage.
