Academic Writing & Editing (AWE)
Academic Writing & Editing (AWE) is available to all JCU HDR candidates as part of their Flexible Professional Development program. The program is available both face to face (in Townsville) and by Zoom, and is offered several times each year.
The course focuses on clear, effective academic writing and editing, for all academic disciplines. We engage with broadly-applicable ideas around clarity, efficiency, consistency, logic and technical and stylistic correctness. The aim is to provide a forum for discussion about how HDR candidates can achieve their written communication goals, making use of sound communication principles and practical activities.
Participants work closely with an experienced academic writer and editor who is also an active researcher (Liz Tynan). Successful completion of the course enables candidates to claim 12 hours towards RD/RM7003 Professional Development, made up of eight hours of class time (either face to face or on Zoom), two hours of the AWE Candidate Conference and up to two hours of individual editorial consultation.
