Title: An alternate scholarship proposition for researching contemporary Indigenous issues
Abstract: Prof Nakata will discuss the significance of the researcher’s standpoint in studies involving Indigenous Australians, particularly how they come to inform decisions on the choice of theory/method for a proposed study and how these decisions flow through to the design of interpretative frameworks for collecting and analysing data. He will share some recent case studies to demonstrate how careful attention to the researcher’s standpoint in the research design stages can be helpful in achieving much deeper understandings of Indigenous experiences in contemporary situations.
