The Tourism, Hospitality, and Management (THM) team from James Cook University Brisbane recently held a highly productive Professional Development (PD) day at Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast.

This event was a valuable opportunity for the team to engage in hands-on learning and collaborative activities, which are essential for staying current in the rapidly evolving fields of tourism and hospitality.

The team conducted a site management assessment at Cavill Avenue, gaining practical insights and real-world applications. The activity also included, a historical walking tour of Gold Coast's oldest high-rise, built in 1959/60, provided a unique perspective on the area's development. At Paradox Coffee Roasters, a modern cafe with a cellar door approach, the team explored innovative business models for potential curriculum integration. The day also included a 'getting to know the team' session to foster relationships, followed by a discussion on teaching philosophies and the THM team’s SITED model.

Overall, the PD day at Gold Coast successfully combined learning and team-building, enhancing the THM team's skills and contributing to the quality of education at James Cook University Brisbane.
