The Subject Information Procedure (Interim): Setting up your Subject Outline

The Subject Outline Procedure has been updated and renamed to the Subject Information Procedure (Interim).

For subjects in 2025, subject information is divided between a concise Subject Outline—produced using the Subject Outline Generator—and the LearnJCU Subject Site. The generated Subject Outline pulls essential details directly from the database, including workload, description, learning outcomes, coordinator information, and assessment profiles, ensuring accuracy and reducing the need for manual preparation.

Additional subject information that requires manual authorship is now distributed across various points within the subject site, enhancing navigation and providing students with the information they need, when they need it.

Subject Coordinators: What to do for subjects in 2025

  1. Complete subject merges, this will streamline the next two steps.
  2. Request the Subject Outline from your Academic Services team. They will generate and upload it to your subject site.
  3. Populate your LearnJCU Subject Site with essential subject information. Guidance for this can be found in the 2025 Subject Site Checklist located at the top of each Subject Site.

Template/Content

The focus is on a comprehensive Subject Outline document containing learning outcomes, assessment details, contacts, calendar, and general information. While some information can be sourced from the database, other content requires manual input, often resulting in inconsistencies, duplication, and inaccuracies.

The Subject Outline can be fully generated by pulling all key details directly from the database—including subject workload, description, learning outcomes, coordinator information, and assessment profile. Additional essential subject information requiring manual input is provided within the LearnJCU Subject Site.

Structure

Information is organised in a single document, often leading to lengthy and complex outlines.

Information is now organised into specific sections within the LearnJCU Subject Template, enhancing ease of navigation for students when needed most.
