Law Seminar Series - Practicing Law in Remote Communities & Mental Health
Thursday 1 August 2024, 2.00pm - 3.00pm Join us for an insightful presentation focusing on the crucial balance between mental health and legal practice, particularly in remote environments. Led by JCU Alumni Diane Godfrey who understands the challenges firsthand, this session offers practical strategies and genuine insights born from real-world experience. Diane will share her insights, navigating legal landscapes from grassroots to high-profile cases where you will discover firsthand the challenges and triumphs of practicing law in remote settings and gain valuable perspectives on community engagement and advocacy. Diane will offer authentic discussion aimed at supporting your professional journey in a meaningful way whereby you can gain valuable insights and connect with resources to navigate the complexities of legal practice while prioritising your well-being. Don't miss this opportunity to glean wisdom from Diane's unique journey so far in the legal profession. Diane Godfrey, a graduate of JCU (Townsville) in 2019, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and was admitted to the Supreme Court QLD in 2020. Following her time in Townsville, Diane embarked on a fulfilling career in the rural community of Mount Isa, spanning 3.5 years of diverse legal practice. Her experience encompasses private practice, serving with the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, and pioneering online legal services in property law. Throughout her tenure, Diane traversed remote landscapes, including Mornington Island, Doomadgee, and Burketown, engaging with communities during Court Circuits. As a solicitor advocate, she appeared in the Magistrate, District, and Supreme Courts, representing clients from various socio-economic backgrounds.
