JCU Student Leads

At the beginning of March, JCU fourth year medical student Julie Graham led the Australian delegation to the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA) General Assembly. This was held in Budva, Montenegro from March 2-8, 2017.

Julie is currently the Australian Medical Students Association Global Health International Vice-Chair. In this role she also acts as the Australian IFMSA President.

The IFMSA is a medical student network of national organisations from over 120 countries worldwide! The organisation works to bring students together to discuss policies, up skill students in various health topics, host training workshops, organise exchanges, and work with partners such as the World Health Organisation.

Julie, along with an IFMSA official and a student from India worked to compile the IFMSA Rural Health Policy. This policy focused on the health inequalities of rural areas compared to their urban counterparts and voiced a strong call to action to various key stakeholders on this issue. This policy ended up being passed with almost unanimous acceptance at one of the plenary sessions in Budva.

Upon returning to Australia, Julie was asked to attend the International Student Meet on Public Health (ISMOPH) held in Melbourne April 1, 2017 on behalf of the IFMSA.
