Course pre-requisites

Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Guidelines for Masters degrees.

Completion of an appropriate bachelor degree with Class I or Class II Honours in a suitable discipline, from this or another university and has at least two years postgraduate experience; or

Completion of qualifications, from this or another university, recognised as equivalent to the above; or

Successful pass in such qualifying examinations, at least one year subsequent to qualifying for an appropriate bachelor degree, as may be determined by the faculty on the recommendation of the Director of the Australian Institute of Tropical Veterinary and Animal Science; or

Submission as an exceptional case such other evidence of academic and professional attainments as meets with the approval of the faculty.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System.  An IELTS score of 7 with no component lower than 7 is required (Band 3 at JCU).

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

24 credit points for the Graduate Diploma of Tropical Animal Science; or

18 credit points for other studies.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 16 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

Candidates who are granted advanced standing for either the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma of Tropical Animal Science will be required to surrender that award prior to graduating with the Master of Tropical Animal Science.
