Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Successful completion of 72 credit points at levels 1, 2 and 3 in the Bachelor of Arts – Bachelor of Social Work pass degree.

Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Guidelines for Bachelor degrees.

Additional selection requirements

Candidates must have a gained at least a Credit grade in four level 2 or level 3 social work subjects; and

Must have obtained at least a Distinction grade in at least two level 2 or level 3 social work subjects.

Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students of non English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System.  An IELTS score of 6.0 with no component lower than 5.5 is required (Band 1 at JCU).  Students scoring below this may be offered up to six months intensive language training prior to admission to the course.

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing for Previous Studies and Recognised Prior Learning policy associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 20 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

The Australian Association of Social Workers does not permit advanced standing to be given for field education undertaken in non-social work programs.
