Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF level 7 Bachelor Degree in the Creative Arts with a GPA of 5.0 or higher; or

Other qualifications recognised by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Division of Tropical Environments and Societies

as equivalent to the above.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Additional selection requirements

Submit proposal to Honours coordinator by November 30 of the year preceding the study.

In the context of a JCU graduate on successful completion of the Bachelor of New Media Arts with Honours graduates will be able to:

  • Develop, research and evaluate ideas, concepts and processes through critical, creative and reflective thinking and practice

  • Research, interpret and communicate ideas proficiently and professionally in a range of communication modes as appropriate to a range of audiences

  • Work independently or collaboratively in the creative and performing arts disciplines in response to project demands

  • Critically reflect on the cultural significance, global traditions and theories informing creative arts practice

  • Generate and critically reflect on knowledge of arts industries or contemporary arts practices, including ethical, moral and/or sustainable practices.

Supplementary exam for final subject

A student who has failed a single subject towards the award in their final teaching period and who gained 40% or more of the marks for that subject may be granted a supplementary examination in that subject. However if that subject is required for accreditation, then the criteria specified by that accreditation will apply.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 5 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 10 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed the course.

A maximum of 3 credit points of advanced standing may be granted at level 4.
