(Yellow-footed polypore)
FAMILY |
Polyporaceae |
Species |
Microporus xanthopus |
Common name |
Yellow-footed Polypore |
Colour |
White undersurface, banded browns in funnel |
Description |
The attractive fruiting body of this fungus is commonly found on rotting wood in tropical areas. It is particularly common on fallen branches but may be found on trees where part of the wood is dead. The disc attachment is often yellow-coloured. The funnels are up to 9 cm diameter with distinct bands in various shades of brown and cream on the inner surface. The lower surface is white to pale brown in colour and is covered with numerous minute pores, hence the general name of polypore. |
