Choosing your high school subjects

Subjects that enable you to enter a course are called prerequisites. By completing the prerequisite subjects for the degrees you’re interested in, you’ll keep your options open. Make sure you also choose subjects you enjoy and perform well in.

The table below is a guide to help choose your high school subjects for JCU study areas. We recommend to always check the JCU course webpages for current information about entry requirements.

1. General Mathematics and Specialist Mathematics are also acceptable.
2. One of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Psychology or Health. Required for Early Childhood and Primary Education
degrees (Units 3/4,C).
3. Please refer to your chosen Health Sciences course for specific Maths and Science prerequisites and recommended knowledge information.
4. JCU has a two-step application process for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science courses.  Essential English subject meets the JCU English prerequisite requirements except for Education Courses, which must study General English.
