Standard Operating Environment

Computer Rooms are available on all main campuses of the University, including the Libraries in Townsville and Cairns.

Only current staff and enrolled students have permission to use the computers located in the Computer Rooms. Students and staff are presented with a login screen on the computers where they must enter their JCU username and password.

Teaching Software

Academic Staff who require specialist teaching software in the Computer Rooms (PC or Mac) should submit a request through the Central Service Desk a minimum of 2 weeks prior to when the software will be required in the Computer Rooms for teaching purposes.

Standard Hardware & Software

There is a range of software applications and utilities installed on all Computer Room workstations forming what is commonly referred to as the Standard Operating Environment (SOE). Students and staff have access to all of these packages after successfully logging in on a Computer Rooms computer.

IT staff are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and availability of software installed as part of the SOE.
