OSHC is a type of health insurance that helps international students pay for medical and hospital care while they are studying in Australia. It is a condition of your student visa to have OSHC for the entire duration of your stay in Australia.
What You Need to Know About OSHC
- Included in Your Offer Letter
- JCU provides an estimated OSHC premium in your Letter of Offer. This letter will also explain how you can make changes to your OSHC policy, such as adding family members.
- Payment of OSHC Premium
- Most students need to pay for their OSHC when they accept their offer to study at JCU.
- If you are studying through a partner institution or are sponsored by an organisation recognised by JCU, your OSHC payment may be arranged under the terms of your agreement.
- Exceptions
- Some students do not need OSHC if they have alternative health cover arrangements recognised by the Australian Government. These include:
- Belgian students: Covered under a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement between Belgium and Australia.
- Norwegian students: Covered by the Norwegian home government insurer.
- Swedish students: Covered by Kammarkollegiet.
- Some students do not need OSHC if they have alternative health cover arrangements recognised by the Australian Government. These include:
