Staff and students
The standard loan period for General Collection items is 3 weeks. Items will automatically renew unless a hold request is placed by another patron or your account expires.
You will receive an email if an item you have on loan has been requested and needs to be returned.
Items in high demand will be placed on, and removed from, 3 day loan (High Use) depending on demand (number of requests). These items will also automatically renew unless a hold request is placed by another patron. Once demand has dropped they will be transferred back to the General Collection.
All Library receipts will be sent by email.
Where patrons who are both staff and student all library notices will be sent to your staff email address.
General borrowing conditions
All Library materials must be returned in good condition on or before the due date and on cessation of employment or enrolment at JCU (NB: please be aware that a change of employment or enrolment status may cause you to miss communications from the library, and monitor your loans accordingly).
Replacement charges will apply to lost or damaged materials. The Library does not accept items purchased elsewhere as replacements for lost or damaged materials. The Library does not refund monies paid for lost items if they are later returned (you may retain the item or donate it back to the Library).
Materials are automatically renewed unless required by another borrower.
Items on loan or located in the library on another campus in Australia may be reserved by placing a hold request.
An off campus service is available to Australian students (except JCU Brisbane) who live more than 50 kilometres from the Townsville or Cairns campuses.
For access to items in non-borrowable collections and articles in print journals held at another campus please use our Intercampus Service.
Library notices are sent by email e, including courtesy reminders, hold availability and financial notices. The Library is not responsible for non-receipt of messages. You cannot dispute a penalty because you have not received a notice.
Material not returned when due will be subject to Library fines and penalties.
