Students quickly saying ‘yes’ to JCU offers

James Cook University is receiving a large number of acceptances to offers to study at JCU in 2016, with many making the University their first preference.

Last month, JCU offered 2785 university places in the major Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) offer round at its Townsville, Cairns, Mackay, Mount Isa and Thursday Island campuses.

When combined with earlier offers made in October, November and December, this brings JCU’s total offers to date to 3760.

Across all campuses, as at February 9, a total of 2895 students have already accepted.

Of the 2845 places offered at the Townsville campus, to date 2128 have accepted. In Cairns, 741 have accepted.

For Townsville, Medicine leads the way with early acceptances, with 176 already snapping up their offer.

While Medicine remains popular with high-achieving students, other OP1 or OP2 students have accepted their offers for courses such as Nursing Science, Creative Media, and Science, which was their first preference.

Students are encouraged to accept their offer as soon as possible to ensure as much time as possible to prepare for the start of classes.

JCU is also still accepting direct applications for many courses. However, some courses are not open to direct applications, such as Medicine, Nursing/Midwifery, Dental Surgery, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Science, Nursing Science (Graduate entry) and Health Science (Physician Assistant).

Direct applications are limited to those courses which still have places available and some courses are only available in Townsville, Cairns or online.

Applications must be submitted to QTAC before 11.59pm on Sunday February 14, or received directly by JCU by Monday, February 15, to begin study in Semester 1 2016.

JCU advisers are available to talk through any questions or queries any prospective student may have. They can be contacted on freecall 1800 246 446.
