Intent
To outline what is required when an intangible asset comes into existence and how it is to be managed and recorded.

Definitions
Policy
When an intangible asset (other than intellectual property) comes into existence, the Head of the Organisational Unit must notify the Chief Financial Officer of the existence and nature of each intangible asset.
Where a staff member creates intellectual property which they believe to be capable of commercial exploitation (other than by scholarly publication) they must notify its existence in writing to the Provost.
Intellectual property must be managed in accordance with the Intellectual Property Policy.
A record must be maintained detailing the existence and nature of each intangible asset which the University owns and/or controls.
