RDIM Frequently Asked Questions I do not have any data generated as part of my research project - what should I do?

I do not have any data generated as part of my research project - what should I do?

While most projects generate research data (i.e. data required to support the validity or integrity of research findings) it is possible that your project does not generate data, or that it is included in your outputs. This is not unusual in HASS disciplines but can apply in any discipline or in cross-disciplinary research e.g. desktop reviews and theoretical research.

We have developed and information sheet to assist researchers and HDR candidates:

Identifying research data for archiving in Research Data JCU

You may not need to complete all of the records (i.e. an archival Data Record or a Data Publication) in Research Data JCU but as each research project is unique it is always best to check with us at the start of your project by emailing researchdata@jcu.edu.au and to seek an exemption if you are a HDR candidate.

HDR candidates are required to complete a RDMP and discuss it with their Advisors. This will help you decide what data inputs will be used and what working materials and research data (if any) will be generated and how best to manage them - and ensures compliance with Graduate Research School (GRS) and data management requirements.
