The JCU School of Business – Rugby Union Scholarship is open for you to apply if you:

  • Are a domestic student;
  • Commencing studies at JCU;
  • Enrolled, or intending to enroll, full time at the JCU Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus;
  • Studying Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business (including all dual degrees);
  • Have displayed excellence in the sport of rugby union, demonstrated by participation at local club and representative levels.

The value of the scholarship is $2,000 paid in one instalment after census date of the trimester closest to awarding date. Please allow up to 6 weeks after census date for payment.

Applicants must submit with the official form:

  • Recommendation letter from Townsville District Rugby Union;
  • Copy of your full academic record and/or senior student statement and/or ATAR score.

Applicants may be required to attend an interview with the selection committee.

The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquires as to the applicant's good character and suitability to receive the scholarship, which includes authorization for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant's academic record, and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.

Your application is checked for completeness and eligibility, and you will receive an email confirmation it has been received. It will be individually assessed and put forward to a selection committee who will rank your application against others who have applied. Applicants may be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

Eligibility Criteria

The JCU School of Business – Rugby Union Scholarship is open for you to apply if you:

  • Are a domestic student;
  • Commencing studies at JCU;
  • Enrolled, or intending to enrol, full time at the JCU Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus;
  • Studying Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business (including all dual degrees);
  • Have displayed excellence in the sport of rugby union, demonstrated by participation at local club and representative levels.

Selection Criteria

The Selection Criteria are:

  • Excellence in rugby (60%)
  • Academic history, progress and academic participation (40%).

Selection Process

The award of the scholarship will be made in the absolute discretion of the Selection Committee, which shall comprise:

  • Adj Prof Colin Dwyer (Chair);
  • John Carey (Wilson Ryan & Gross);
  • David Gusmarolli (Moduline Kitchens).

The Selection Committee will determine all matters relating to the selection of the Scholarship awardee.

Conditions of the Scholarship

  • Applicants may apply for the program prior to commencing their course of studies, so long as they intend to commence in the year of award.
  • Recipients must be enrolled full time in an appropriate course of study before payment will be made.
  • Recipients will be paid in one installment of $2,000 after census date of the trimester closest to awarding date.
  • Recipients will be required to complete a student report on their study experiences at the end of their award year.
  • A student may lodge a request for review of decision in accordance with the provisions of the Student Appeals Policy.

Administration of the Scholarship

The scholarship shall be administered by the scholarships office, on behalf of the Selection Committee.

The funds of the scholarship shall be held in an account in the name of the University and shall be administered by the officer of the University charged with administering the scholarship.
