Zoom is well suited for in room and virtual video meetings, connecting anyone from anywhere with any device, including traditional video conference hardware systems such as Cisco, Poly and many others.
- Phone InfoHelp on 15500 or 21777 for assistance on how to install Zoom
- Zoom Help and Support for answers to common Zoom questions
- Zoom for JCU Computers Guide for a comprehensive guide
- Zoom meetings in centrally bookable video conference enabled rooms are best automatically connected by VAVS - all you need to do is forward the Zoom invite to videoconferencing@jcu.edu.au.
In AV rooms without video conference equipment, the participant(s) is advised to use the in house all-in-one Dell PC or a laptop, to connect to Zoom. Please note the quality of the inbuilt video camera and microphone in the PCs, are not comparable to the equipment in video conference and zoom rooms.
- How to run a successful video conference
If you are in a videoconference enabled room, connected to Zoom, please avoid connecting to Zoom on the AiO Desktop room PC or a personal portable device (laptop, tablet, smartphone) as this is likely to introduce feedback and will severely compromise the audio quality. Mute the room microphone by using the Cisco remote control. In-room microphones are particularly sensitive and designed to pick up the minutest sounds, ensure you are not rustling papers or tapping pens near these, as the noise can be extremely distracting for remote participants.
- To avoid unwanted surprises when joining a zoom event, it is recommended you test your camera and microphone prior to joining the real event. Make a test call
- Enrolments are now open
- Zoom meetings are ideal for hosting more interactive sessions where you’ll want to have lots of audience participation or break your session into smaller groups.

- Think of webinars like a virtual lecture hall or auditorium. Webinars are ideal for large audiences or events that are open to the public. Typically, webinar attendees do not interact with one another. Though Zoom provides options for you to get more social with your attendees, your average webinar has one or a few people speaking to an audience.
- There are only a limited number of available Webinar licenses, to obtain a license please log a Service Now job.
